Family Vacation

My family and I finally went on our FIRST vacation together!  Well....first vacation with JUST the 3 of us.  It was wonderful to get away and relax and just be able to actually enjoy each other without worrying about work or school or bills or anything else we have going on at any given time.  So Tuesday morning we packed up and headed to Stevens Point, WI for 5 days of fishing, exploring, and being lazy.

We stayed at a cabin in the woods right along the Wisconsin River that belongs to a friend of Nick's uncle.  This was my second trip there, the first being 5 years ago for our first anniversary - I was 4 months pregnant and felt D kick for the first time!  It's a beautiful, quiet, serene place and I wish we owned something similar.

Wednesday we headed downtown for the farmer's market (which was admittedly a little disappointing) and spent sometime at the Children's Museum for D.  She had a blast.  We had lunch at a quaint little breakfast cafe called The Wooden Chair, and then explored the Sculpture Park, which was located in a 20 acre forest preserve just outside of town.  We did some fishing (I caught 3 small silver bass....and that was it.  Nobody else caught anything the entire time we were there!!  Nick hooked what we think was a HUGE catfish, but it broke the line.  Bummer) and had a fire.  D and I made s'mores.

Thursday we toured the Stevens Point Brewery and were able to sample a few of their beers after (I am not a beer drinker, but I did think their pumpkin brew was pretty good! D and I sipped the vanilla cream and orange cream and root beer - yum!!) and went to a pretty badass playground dubbed KASH (Kids Are Special Here), which was specifically designed for children of all ages and physical abilities - very cool!  We watched Cabin In The Woods....which I highly recommend if you are looking for a good laugh.  Admittedly, I did not look to see what it was about when I picked it - I just thought it would be appropriate since we were, indeed, staying in a cabin in the woods.  Next time I will be more selective with my movie choices.

Friday was meant to be a day of exploring...which I guess we did, just not in Stevens Point.  We ended up in Wisconsin Rapids (we were on the hunt for something fun to do and some shopping), but it was a BIG bust.  We had a good time regardless and stopped for some soft serve when we got back.

Saturday we peeked into a used book store and made our way back home...made a detour to Volcano Falls in Rockford for a quick ride on their go cart track, and then settled back in to finish off the weekend in our own home.
